Wordpress 2
Finally upgraded to Wordpress 2, so its time to share my thoughts on the process.
The upgrade:
Upgrading was a case of backing up all the data (DB and Files) and disabling all my plugins. Then I simply uploaded the new files and ran the upgrade script and it worked fine.
The site was broken as it calls one of the plugins, but enabling that plugin fixed that, and I then setup Akismet with my API key to see if it would catch the growing amount of spam I get through the comments.
The new features:
The new backend is pretty slick, with a very usable layout and a good WYSIWYG editor. Overall I think its a worthwhile upgrade that adds tot he software. There is also less clutter in the edit screnns now - you can easily get to the more power user features, but they start off in collapsed menus.
Akismet has functioned perfectly, nuking loads of comment spam, and was worth the upgrade on its own.
There is now a pretty good backup utility included, which is a good choice.
Uploading files to support posts is pretty painless now.
There is also a good importer, which works with blogger. I intend to convert my blogger blog into wordpress soon, so will be testing this in due course.
Overall:
A worthwhile upgrade, and painless for me. I however do not run many plugins / hacks / mods etc, so YMMV.
